My Favorite Mexican Hot Sauce – Cholula
My absolute favorite brand of Mexican hot sauce is Salsa Cholula from Chapala. It’s made from chiles de arbol, a fiery dried red chile. The label says that “it has the authentic flavor of Mexican salsa.” I agree.
I put it on everything. To me it tastes similar to Tabasco hot sauce, but less vinegary. Try it on scrambled eggs or huevos a la Mexicana. It makes the best breakfast ever.
Where to Buy Cholula Hot Sauce
Salsa Cholula hot sauce is easy to find at the grocery store, at least in some parts of the U.S. Most grocery stores in California carry it. And, I believe they carry it in Texas also. Look for it next time you are at the grocery store. A new addition to the line is Cholula hotsauce with Chipotle, another winner. If you are lucky you might be able to find it too.
If you can’t find Cholula at your local grocery store you can order it through Amazon.com. Order Some Cholula Mexican Hot Sauce. Cholula has a good website in english to find out more about it.

Hi, We used to bring back to Canada bottles and bottles of Cholula from Chapala, in our suitcases – until we found it in our local grocer store. Now instead of paying $1.00 for a bottle we have to pay $6.00 for a bottle – but we save on the airfare!
Enjoy!
Kris,
where did you find those $1 cholulas? im curious thanks

Cholula is absolutely delicious and spicy but I’ve recently been converted to Valentina.
I guess that was pre-depression price. I live in Mexico, and I used to buy Cholula salsa in California, since I live near the border, it was les expensive to buy it imported in the US than to buy it in Mexico. Now with the devaluation it costs just about the same. around 2.50 USD, on each side of the border.
A little note: Cholula its the most expensive bottled salsa in Mexico. (I think its because of the wooden cap)Most other brands hover around 1 USD. But I think this one is worth it. My favorite food is eggs sunny side up, and a sprinkle of cholula, and a couple slices of ham lightly fried in oil.
For the adventurous who likes mexican junk food, like chicharrones, potato chips or churritos (fried, extruded corn)… You should try La Valentina, it spices snacks perfectly.
